A Two Days Training-cum-Awareness Programme on Finger Millet Value-Added Product Preparation was organized
at Khupaliang on 26th and 27th August 2026, with the participation of nine women members from different Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The programme aimed to create
awareness among the participants about the nutritional importance of finger millet and its potential for value addition and income generation through small-scale
entrepreneurship.
During the programme, the KVK Home Science Specialist Mrs. Pooja Singnale delivered an informative lecture
on the importance of millets, their health benefits, and various possibilities for value addition. Emphasis was also given to the scope of developing small-scale
enterprises based on millet products, which can provide additional income and livelihood opportunities for rural women.
Following the awareness session, the participants were provided with hands-on training on the preparation
of finger millet cookies and finger millet Ladoo’s. The practical session enabled the women to gain skills in preparing nutritious and marketable millet-based
products using locally available resources.
Mrs. Pooja Singnale, encouraged the participating SHG members to actively explore value addition of locally
available natural resources and utilize their skills for developing small-scale entrepreneurial activities. He emphasized that processing and value addition
of locally available crops such as finger millet can contribute to improved nutrition, employment generation, and enhanced household income.
The programme concluded with an encouragement to the women participants to adopt millet-based value-added
products as a potential livelihood activity and to take forward the knowledge and skills gained during the training.
